Why did Publish North East choose Breakthrough?

PNE decided to engage with Breakthrough when they embarked upon scoping and researching for a new publication aimed at school leavers and college graduates in the North of England. As you might appreciate, gathering feedback and producing market research for such a project can be expensive and time consuming.

"The original plan was to visit 9 schools and colleges around the North of England and run market research sessions with the objective of establishing the look and feel, general type of content and writing style of the publication... " Explains John Graham, Managing Director of Publish North East LTD. "following this, a representative from each would attend a final session in Newcastle... The challenge we faced was time and expense... the project was underway and we simply didn't have time to run with the original plan.."

The results

After consultation with Breakthrough another solution was found. One that could save Publish North East; time and money and also would raise the profile of the company, allow local press engagement and would impress the investors of the publication.

Innovation and creativity were key. A lavish workshop was planned which brought together 10 Students from each of the 9 educational establishments in one room for several hours... all with one focus. The workshop was based on the concept of workmats. These are large working documents (See Image Gallery above) that encourage; discussion, participation and enthusiasm. And give a unique format for recording the output for review and consideration later.

"The concept of one big workshop not only saved us time and money, it allowed us to create a showcase film which we use to impress investors and clients on new projects." Says John "The results of the MATS were fantastic... It was a concept i had never seen before but worked amazingly well. it would have taken us weeks to get this amount and quality of feedback from our target audience!"

The event was extremely successful. Publish North East were able to gather significant imput into their publication in a very short space of time, by engaging with Breakthrough, John also comments that "The project as a whole was a pleasure to do... it really delivered the results we wanted and more" .
